{"id":803,"date":"2012-12-10T07:22:54","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T12:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/?p=803"},"modified":"2012-12-10T07:22:56","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T12:22:56","slug":"participating-historic-event-federal-government-procurement-fair-lgbt-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/participating-historic-event-federal-government-procurement-fair-lgbt-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Participating in an Historic Event \u2013 First Ever US Federal Government Procurement Fair for LGBT Businesses!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part 1 of 2 of a series around LGBT economic development<\/p>\n<p>On November 15, 2012, it was truly an exciting privilege to attend the first ever Federal Government Procurement Fair for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) owned businesses.  The event was organized by the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce <a href=\"http:\/\/nglcc.org\/files\/nglcc-splash\/index.html\"><strong>(NGLCC)<\/strong><\/a>, the certifying body for LGBT business enterprises.  And the NGLCC provides a wide range of support services to LGBT-owned businesses as well as for the corporate partners who now include LGBT in the supplier diversity mix.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon session was appropriately held at the US Department of Commerce Building in Washington, DC.  Before the 50 to 60 LGBT business owners started visiting with the approximately dozen Federal agencies that were represented, we had a dynamic and inspiring 45 minute session with several short addresses.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.commerce.gov\/about-commerce\/commerce-leadership\/rebecca-blank\"><strong>Dr. Rebecca Blank<\/strong><\/a>, the Acting Secretary of Commerce and Deputy Secretary of Commerce delivered a compelling speech on<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_814\" style=\"width: 267px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/participating-historic-event-federal-government-procurement-fair-lgbt-businesses\/rebecca-blank\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-814\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-814\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rebecca-blank-257x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"rebecca blank\" width=\"257\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-814\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rebecca-blank-257x300.jpg 257w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rebecca-blank-128x150.jpg 128w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rebecca-blank.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 257px) 100vw, 257px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-814\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Rebecca Blank, Acting Secretary of Commerce and Deputy Secretary of Commerce<\/p><\/div> the importance of encouraging LGBT owned business as a key to US economic growth.  Dr. Blank spoke of the President\u2019s US Export Initiative and how LGBT-owned business can and should contribute to it.
