The event was limited to a small number of participants to allow for more intimate discussion and interaction over a nice dinner in a restaurant private dining room.  The event was billed as a \u201cfireside chat\u201d and titled \u201cOD Value Proposition from the CEO Perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_804\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/fireside-chat-fortune-500-ceo-organizational-development\/rick-anicetti\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-804\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-804\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rick-Anicetti.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Rick Anicetti\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-full wp-image-804\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rick-Anicetti.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Rick-Anicetti-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-804\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rick Anicetti<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The featured speaker (actually it was more of an informal interactive chat) was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rickanicetti\"><strong>Rick Anicetti<\/strong><\/a>, a former \u201cFortune 500\u201d CEO is now Founder and President of From One to Many Leadership Consulting LLC (an affiliate of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vistage.com\/\"><strong>Vistage International.<\/strong><\/a>)  Prior to his latest venture, Rick was CEO of Delhaize America, which is the parent company for the well-known leading grocery chain Food Lion.<\/p>\n<p>As one of relatively few CEOs who actually spent time in a Human Resources position, Rick offered us some excellent and profound insights into leadership.  Rick was specifically asked to address how he as a CEO views the value of the Organizational Development practitioner. Some of the nuggets of wisdom I took away included:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tIn today\u2019s market, it is often difficult to differentiate between competitors.  They can all get the same products, systems and processes.  So therefore the one differentiator can be an organization\u2019s people, and their ability to get it done better and faster.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tA company\u2019s human resources (or people) are the most important investment of the company, but also its most expensive and fragile resource.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/fireside-chat-fortune-500-ceo-organizational-development\/skinny-board\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-805\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skinny-Board-300x240.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"Skinny Board\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skinny-Board-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skinny-Board-150x120.png 150w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Skinny-Board.png 766w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tSince most CEO\u2019s do not have HR or Organizational Development experience, we in HR need to \u201cease into things\u201d pertaining to HR and OD instead of blasting in with everything all at once.  I liked Rick\u2019s colorful analogy of \u201cnot leading the CEO out onto the skinny boards too quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tIt is important for HR and OD practitioners to really know the core business and to look for strategic ways to make an impact on the business<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tA simple way to look at leading others: share all you can, share where you are going, why we are going there, and each individual\u2019s role in it.<\/p>\n<p>It is a special opportunity to spend quality time in a small group setting with a senior business leader of Rick\u2019s stature.
