His \u201cfar-fetched\u201d ideas brought him under the scrutiny of the Roman Catholic tribunal, that tried him and required him to confess his sins.\u00a0 In addition, his books were placed on the \u201cList of Forbidden Books.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5316\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5316\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5316\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ponte-Vechhio-296x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ponte-Vechhio-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ponte-Vechhio-346x351.jpg 346w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ponte-Vechhio-148x150.jpg 148w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ponte-Vechhio.jpg 691w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5316\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ponte Vechhio, built in 1345, the most photographed bridge in the world.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>That was almost 500 years ago, and now what is happening today in American politics?\u00a0 The same thing!\u00a0 Self-appointed keepers of morality much like the church tribunals of 500 years ago are determining what books are evil and should be kept away from schools and libraries.\u00a0 Certain factions are deciding on behalf of all people that our society needs to be protected from books about our nation\u2019s history of racism or discussing various aspects of sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, I published a blog reviewing some of the recently banned books by school districts,<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2022\/11\/these-banned-books-are-delightful\/\"> &#8220;These Banned Books Are Delightful&#8221;<\/a> <\/strong>and a follow on, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2023\/01\/another-delightful-and-insightful-banned-book-gender-queer-by-maia-kobabe\/\"><strong>Another delightful and insightful banned book \u2013 Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u201d Several years ago, one of the best teachers in Orange County, North Carolina was run out of town since he dared to read a book about a prince marrying another prince to his class.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/princes-dont-care-princesses-whats-big-deal\/\">(Read my blog about this.)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Galileo died a sad and lonely death at his home in Florence, and the city of Florence has always regretted the bad treatment of Galileo and has made efforts to keep his memory alive.\u00a0 So is history now repeating itself here in the USA?\u00a0 I do hope that in the future, our nation regrets letting small minds dictate what our population may and may not read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my July newsletter I mentioned that after writing 2-4 blogs per month for years without a break, I had not written for well over a month.\u00a0 That also included an 18-day vacation traveling through Italy, Greece, Malta and Spain.\u00a0 &hellip;
