Below is a short summary.  Please email me at Stan@TotalEngagementConsulting.com if you would like to schedule me to present a similar workshop for you or for a copy of my presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 20 years there have been tremendous changes in the global world that has now dictated that we look at the economy though lenses of global and diversity dynamics.  These include:<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_354\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/core-competencies-leading-today%e2%80%99s-competitive-diverse-global-economy\/blog-diverse-teams\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-354\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-354\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Diverse-Teams-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Blog Diverse Teams\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Diverse-Teams-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Diverse-Teams-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Diverse-Teams.jpg 412w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-354\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Work teams are now becoming much more diverse and multi-national<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n\u2022\tWork teams with all employees co-located together in a single location to virtual global workteams which could include people from several different countries<br \/>\n\u2022\tUS centric sales strategy to now growth coming from fast growing economies in Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and South America.  The US economy is now in the bottom half of all nations in year to year growth.<br \/>\n\u2022\tFrom a white male American workforce to a workforce that includes more women, people of color and people from various countries.\\<br \/>\n\u2022\tThe internet has enabled global sales to anyone anywhere, and web-based supply chain applications has opened up global procurement possibilities.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_355\" style=\"width: 283px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/core-competencies-leading-today%e2%80%99s-competitive-diverse-global-economy\/blog-internet\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-355\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-355\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Internet-273x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Blog Internet\" width=\"273\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Internet-273x300.jpg 273w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Internet-136x150.jpg 136w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Blog-Internet.jpg 287w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The internet has enabled tremendous growth in global sales and supply chains<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>I have studied five different management competency models and have identified eight competencies that appeared in three or more models.  A competency is a skill that can be learned and developed.  Of those eight competencies, six have a strong global \/ diversity component:<br \/>\n1.\tBeing able to work across boundaries and to embrace multiple dimensions of diversity<br \/>\n2.\tBeing able to partner, collaborate and team \u2013 especially with diverse, global people<br \/>\n3.\tEmpowering, leading, mentoring others \u2013 and that includes diverse people and people outside the US that are now in your enterprise<br \/>\n4.\tStrategic risk taking \/ entrepreneurial spirit, since stepping out of your comfort zone to engage with a diverse global world does involve taking risk<br \/>\n5.\tEmbracing change and being adaptable since you need to be flexible and able to adjust management style when dealing with a wide diversity of people<br \/>\n6.\tBeing a life-long learner, curiosity \u2013 since you need to be willing to learn, stretch and grow in interacting globally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week I presented a workshop at the Diversity Council of the Carolinas 2011 Conference on Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement.
