And in late October, US Figure Skating distributed this exciting video highlighting the many varied accomplishments of the \u201cGet Up\u201d Program since its launch a year ago.  Link to the 4 minute video below.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Get Up Compilation\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nQnHeV7awcM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>Figure Skating is a tough sport! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theodysseyonline.com\/why-figure-skating-is-one-of-the-hardest-sports-in-the-world\"><strong>(link to article)<\/strong> <\/a>It may look smooth and glamorous, but those falls on that hard ice are brutal to the body and soul. But there is a lesson here that we can apply to our personal, athletic and even business lives \u2013 that when we fall, instead of just lying there feel sorry for ourselves, we need to pick ourselves up, learn from our mistake or from the challenge we were presented, and continue toward our goal.<\/p>\n<p>So I was very glad to write a monthly series focused on the theme of \u201cGetting Up.\u201d  Here are short summaries with links to each of the series.<\/p>\n<p>In January, I wrote the introductory blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/01\/figure-skatings-fantastic-campaign-get-up\/\"><strong>Introduction to the \u201cGet Up\u201d<\/strong><\/a> theme with figure skating examples, including famous skaters and regular recreational skaters.<\/p>\n<p>In February and April, I featured adult skaters who have gotten up from serious illnesses and injuries.  It often takes adults much longer to recover, so these stories from adult skaters are truly inspirational.  Links to : Stories of Adult Figure Skaters \u201cGetting Up\u201d After Illness and Injury,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/adult-figure-skaters-inspirational-stories-getting-up-illness-injury-part-1\/\"> <strong>part 1<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/04\/adult-figure-skaters-inspirational-stories-getting-up-illness-injury-part-2\/\"><strong>part 2.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In March I wrote about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/03\/get-up-blog-march-career-falls\/\"><strong>getting up from career and vocational falls<\/strong><\/a> with four short inspiration stories of how these people \u201cgot up\u201d to move on after falls and troubles in their vocational lives.<\/p>\n<p>In May, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, my May \u201cGet Up\u201d Blog was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/getting-up-attempting-suicide\/\"><strong>\u201cGetting Up after Considering or Attempting Suicide.\u201d<\/strong> <\/a>Often greatly stigmatized, people suffering with this issue can indeed get up and move on to whole and satisfying lives.<\/p>\n<p>In June, I wrote In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/loneliness-isolation-finding-community\/\"><strong>\u201cGetting Up from from loneliness and isolation through finding community\u201d<\/strong><\/a> where I share the inspiring story of adult figure skater Amanda McGowan find a community through skating.<\/p>\n<p>For July \/ August &#8211; &#8211; In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/getting-up-life-hiding-deception\/\"><strong>\u201cGetting Up from a Life of Hiding and Deception,\u201d<\/strong><\/a> my friend Jim shares about \u201cGetting Up\u201d and changing from old patterns of secrecy and deception to living a more productive, honest, rich authentic life as a proud gay man.<\/p>\n<p>In September, I dealing with: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/nay-sayers\/\"><strong>\u201cGetting Up from Nay-sayers\u201d<\/strong><\/a>, about how to deal with one of the most insidious detractors keeping us from achieving our goals \u2013 those negative people who love to tell us what we are not able to do.<\/p>\n<p>My October Get Up Blog \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/get-up-wonderful-series-books-kinds-figure-skaters-joanne-vassallo-jamrosz\/\"><strong>an interview with Joanne Vassallo Jamrosz<\/strong><\/a> who has written a wonderful series of books about all kinds of figure skaters, famous and no-so-famous, who all have \u201cget up\u201d stories.
