The speaker was Jill A. Kopanis, who in addition to being an inspirational speaker is a proven successful HR leader for a graphics and digital solutions firm in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>Jill covered three major themes, a whole lot of territory, in a very well organized and dynamic fashion:<\/p>\n<p>THEME 1 \u2013 the importance of first effectively driving your own personal career development. She used the acronym of \u201cSHAZAAM!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>S \u2013 Setting your own goals, priorities and dreams <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/great-day-learning-aligning-career-corporate-culture-communications-styles\/shazaam\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1205\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shazaam-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"Shazaam\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shazaam-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shazaam-150x81.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Shazaam.jpg 435w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nH \u2013 Hold backs not allowed<br \/>\nA \u2013 Attitude will determine your altitude \u2013 how high and far you will go<br \/>\nZ \u2013 One check, are you staying in your comfort zone?  Why?<br \/>\nA \u2013 Adjust your sails, your direction, if need be to reach new heights<br \/>\nA \u2013 Apply yourself and begin to soar<br \/>\nM \u2013 Make it happen!!<\/p>\n<p>THEME 2 \u2013 As Human Resource Professionals, once we are in control of our own careers, we can lead the work to greatly impact employee engagement within the companies we work.  Instead of demanding a seat at the table as HR leaders , we must earn that seat at the senior leadership table by providing extraordinary value add.   Jill used the acronym \u201cRace Toward Engagement\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022\tRecognize the value, the importance of engagement<br \/>\n\u2022\tAcknowledge each individual employee<br \/>\n\u2022\tChampion a culture of engagement<br \/>\n\u2022\tEngage the entire workforce<br \/>\nI myself have frequently blogged about how personnel is often the largest investment and competitive differentiator within a company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/protecting-organizations-largest-investment\/\"><strong>(see blog on this discussion)<\/strong><\/a>, and I offer my unique <a href=\"http:\/\/www.totalengagementconsulting.com\/career-roadmapping-overview.php\"><strong>Total Engagement Career Mapping services<\/strong><\/a> to energize employees through engaging them in career development based on successful examples from within their company.<\/p>\n<p>THEME 3 \u2013 Effectively Using Communication Styles.  Jill ended the session by reviewing four very different communication styles that people have.
